Below I am sharing some links to resources for those of us with aging parents.

This information is for Ontario, but I am sure similar services are available nationwide.

Lately, I've had a few conversations with friends around entering this time of our lives.

I've gained a lot of knowledge and insight over the years about accessing available resources.

Please always feel comfortable if you ever have a question because I have always been very resourceful and kind of an expert in this field.

These links contain information about accessing services, from housecleaning and maintenance services to personal care services. Our parents will never admit things like keeping a clean house become too much for them until it's overwhelming. Even just having a cleaner come in once a month is a relief. The services below vary from free to subsidized to set prices. The wait list for subsidized services can be long so I can't emphasize enough to get on the list sooner than later. Don't wait! That is my expert advice

In Ontario, various resources are available to support elderly parents. Here are some key resources and services you might find helpful:

  1. Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care:

  5. Community Care Access Centres (CCACs):

    • These centers provide a range of home and community-based services, including nursing, personal support, and rehabilitation.

    • Note: CCACs have been integrated into Ontario Health Teams.

  6. Senior's Active Living Centres (SALCs):

    • Offer recreational and social programs for seniors, promoting active living and community engagement.

    • Website: Senior's Active Living Centres

  7. Ontario 211:

    • A free, confidential service that provides information and referrals for community, social, and government services.

    • Website: Ontario 211

  8. Alzheimer Society of Ontario:

    • Provides support and resources for individuals with dementia and their families.

    • Website: Alzheimer Society of Ontario

  9. Ontario Long-Term Care Association:

  10. Home and Community Care Support Services:

    • These services help with personal care, homemaking, and other support to help seniors live independently.

  11. Financial Assistance Programs:

These resources should help you find the support your elderly parents need. If you're unsure where to start, contacting local community centers or healthcare providers can also guide you to the appropriate services.
